In today's fast-paced global business landscape, understanding different cultures is crucial. This reflection highlights the insights I gained from Māori culture and how they shaped my approach as a construction project manager. Ignoring traditional practices and indigenous wisdom means missing out on valuable strategies that can enhance our ability to manage complex projects effectively.
As a construction project manager and in cognition of global business management, I have developed a valuable intuition which are considered to be vital for success in today’s interconnected world. This learning has been the importance of understanding cultural diversity and how it outlines business practices in the modern and globalized environment. Demonstrating this is the Māori culture that offers a profound framework for creating a sturdy relationship, promoting collaboration, and flourishing in global trade. Māori values in particular, have highlighted the significance of cultural intelligence in global business settings that offers respect for others, community, and the promotes balance between the environment and business.
Although it is considered to be valuable in bringing success into global business management, its principles do not entirely focus on profit maximization, hence it maintains virtuous ethical standards, respect cultural differences, and build a justifiable relationship with each stakeholder. However, In the context of construction project management, these learnings had greatly assisted in establishing better working environments, negotiating with diverse stakeholders, and managing teams that involves different cultural backgrounds. Identifying the magnitude of cultural differences that influence organizational performance also improves significantly on communication and problem-solving, and minimizes the likelihood for misunderstandings in transnational collaborations.
Therefore, by virtue of identifying the risks, opportunities, and threat involved, the core features of global business management have enhanced my capability to make informed decisions. As an example in construction projects, it enables me to assess financial risks, determine the impending challenges in supply chain management, and evaluate the available opportunities for innovation. Applying this approach, had further develop my cost management strategies, maximize project benefits, and implement efficient marketing strategies that critically align with either local and global market demands. The Treaty of Waitangi’s principle that encompasses partnership, participation, and protection had a provided a profound impact on my perception in global business management in which it further guides my decision-making endeavor, ensuring that projects are inclusive, culturally sensitive, and perfectly aligns with both business goals and ethical considerations.
In the palpable and challenging world, I intend to apply these understandings by encouraging a project management approach that balances global business practices with local cultural values. Ensure that my teams and the organization clearly understand the significance of cultural awareness that actively engage in risk management, and carrying out strategic thinking to leverage opportunities in a global market. For this reason, I will not only concentrate in ensuring the success of construction projects but I will also make an initiative to constantly contribute in creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and globally aware business practices in the future.
